Geothermal Exploration
The Hu'u Project location not only holds mineral resources, but also has geothermal energy potential. STM is seeking to utilize this geothermal energy to support the future mining operation.
2018—2022
In 2018, STM was granted a Geothermal Preliminary Exploration and Survey Assignment which enabled STM to conduct geothermal exploration. This area is estimated to up to 69 MWe of energy potential (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, 2023).
2023
Fast forward to 2023, STM has completed the Geothermal Preliminary Exploration and Survey Assignment. Through this exploration program, a geothermal reservoir was discovered. This offers STM a potential clean, renewable and sustainable energy source to support the mining operation.
2024
STM won the limited tender for the Hu’u Daha Geothermal Working Area under Ministerial Decree No. 199.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2024 and established PT Sumbawa Timur Geothermal (STG), a geothermal affiliated company responsible for advanced exploration and holding the Geothermal Permit (IPB).

Unlike fossil fuels, geothermal energy is renewable and emits minimal greenhouse gases. STM has drilled one well using the slim hole drilling method to
confirm the presence of a geothermal reservoir.
This potential geothermal energy resource will be used by STM to support the company's future mining operations.
